SSCS Chapter Awards

The following Chapter Awards are presented annually to chapters that meet and exceed the parameters listed below. The awards are based on a calendar year (January-December) and are presented during ISSCC. 

One Chapter PER award will be granted each year, although, the Chapters Steering Committee may recommend two awards in an exceptional year or forgo the presentation of any of the awards if no qualified cancidates are avaliable. The Chapters Steering Committee reviews and rank-orders all nominations based on the criteria listed below.

SSCS Chapter Awards 

Awards Description Prize/Recognition
Chapter of the Year To recognize a regular/joint (non-student branch) chapter that has constantly and consistently shown outstanding leadership and initiative in organizing activities. The Chapter should reflect growth, engagement, innovation, and/or a combination of these metrics. $1500 to be used for Chapter activities and a Certificate of Recognition for display
Student Branch Chapter of the Year To recognize a student branch chapter that has constantly and consistently shown outstanding leadership and initiative in organizing activities. The Chapter should reflect growth, engagement, innovation, and/or a combination of these metrics. $1000 to be used for Chapter activities and a Certificate of Recognition for display
Chapter with Best Educational Program To recognize a chapter that has consistently organized events supporting SSCS Educational Activities. This award will be based on programs such as short courses and tutorials, lectures, and other activities based on the interests of SSCS. $1000 to be used for Chapter activities and a Certificate of Recognition for display.
Chapter with Best Distinguished Lecturer Program

To recognize a chapter that has consistently organized IEEE SSCS Distinguished Lectures (DL) and have invited a diverse roster of SSCS DL’s to visit their Chapter.

$1000 to be used for Chapter activities and a Certificate of Recognition for display.
Chapter with Women in Circuits Program

To recognize a chapter that has consistently organized activities that align with the IEEE SSCS Women in Circuits mission.

$1000 to be used for Chapter activities and a Certificate of Recognition for display.
Chapter with Best Pre-University Outreach To recognize a chapter that has consistently organized events around pre-university outreach and has shown initiative of recruiting student members. This award will be based on chapters that hold events to grow student membership. $1000 to be used for Chapter activities and a Certificate of Recognition for display.

Eligibility

Open to all active SSCS Chapters subject to (1) Chapter of the Year Award given only to regular/joint (non-student branch) chapters and (2) Student Branch Chapter of the Year Award given only to student branch chapters. A chapter cannot receive an award more than once every three years. Eligibility and Selection process shall comply with procedures and regulation established in IEEE and Society/Council governing documents, particularly with IEEE Policy 4.4 on Awards Limitations". Previous award winners are not eligible for substantially the same achievements (per IEEE Policies 4.4: An individual shall receive only one award for a given achievement, unless the significance merits a higher award, which may be given in the following year or thereafter.)   

 As a general rule, one award will be granted each year, though the Chapters Steering Committee will have the discretionary power to recommend up to two awards in each category in a given year, or forego the presentation of an award if no qualified candidate is avaliable. There will be no travel budget available for recipient chapters to travel to the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) to publicly receive the award.

Frequency

This award will given once per year.  Award will be given only if a suitable awardee is identified.

Award Committee

The award will be handled by the Chapters Steering Committee (CSC), which consists of the Chapters Chair and up to ten other members, all current/past Chapter officers with active Chapters-related records. There is representation from multiple regions, and from both regular/joint and student branch chapters. 

Presentation

The award will be presented at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) annually.The award recipient will be announced at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference, published in the Spring issue of IEEE Solid-State Circuits Magazine, and on the Society website and e-newsletter.
