JSSC Best Student Paper Award

The IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits Best Student Paper Award recognizes the most outstanding student-led paper published in the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC) during the previous calendar year. This award honors exceptional technical innovation, clarity of presentation, and meaningful impact on the solid-state circuits field.

Prize

  • $1,000 awarded to the student lead author
  • Certificates for the student, lead author, and their academic advisor

This is a single annual award. Multiple recipients may be recognized only in the case of multiple eligible lead authors.

Funding

Funded by the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS).

Eligibility

Eligible papers must:

  • Have been published in JSSC during the preceding year
  • Have a first author who was a student at the time the work was performed
  • Be identified as a student paper at submission time

Self-nominations and nominations from individuals at the same institution as the authors are not permitted.

Multiple nominations of the same paper are allowed.

Nomination Process

Nominations are solicited from:

  • Associate Editors and Guest Editors handling the papers
  • Reviewers, who may nominate a paper via a reviewer checkbox

Editors receive citation data and IEEE Xplore page-view statistics to support evaluation. Each nomination requires a brief supporting statement.

Selection Committee

The committee is appointed by the Editor-in-Chief (EiC) and consists of:

  • The two most recent EiCs
  • Six Associate Editors from the current editorial board, with emphasis on academic members

The current EiC serves as the non-voting chair (votes only to break ties).

A quorum is achieved with more than 50% of voting members.

Each committee member ranks their top three papers.

A point system (3–2–1) determines the winning paper.

All voting is conducted via email; the committee does not meet in person or virtually.

Final approval is provided by the SSCS Vice President of Publications.

Judging Criteria
