JSSC Test of Time Award

Award Information

Established in 2024, this award will recognize an outstanding paper published in the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits at least 10 years prior that has had significant impact on its field. The primary criteria that will be considered include: Overall impact on the field (to-date and also the potential for future impact), technical excellence, clarity of writing, and novelty. Nominators will need to specifically and quantitatively show the long-term and sustained impact of the paper on the integrated circuit field. This may include citations, citations from patents, major news articles, products leveraging the innovation of the work, etc.

One award will be given bi-annually, but only if a suitable awardee is identified. The award includes a $250 cash prize and certificate for each co-author of the winning paper, up to a maximum of $3,750.

The call for nominations will be made in our primary SSCS member communications, the Solid-State Circuits Magazine and Society Newsletter. The nomination package will consist of: (1) a two to three-page nomination letter describing the long-term and sustained impact of the paper and how it has advanced the field of solid-state circuits. Eligible papers are defined as those published at least ten years before the year the award is being given for (e.g., the 2025 Test of Time Award will be given to JSSC papers published in 2015 or earlier). Self-nominations are not allowed. The 2025 Test of Time Award, which is the current cycle, will be presented at ISSCC in February 2026.

The Award selection process will be managed by the JSSC Editor-in-Chief, with the help of a selection committee. The selection committee consists of two current JSSC Associate Editors, two current SSCS Publications Committee members, and two current elected SSCS Administrative Committee members. All selection committee members, as well as the Editor-in-Chief, are ineligible to receive the award.

Award nominations will be accepted from April 1 to September 30 of the year of the award.

Announcement of the Award winner will appear in the Solid-State Circuits Magazine, SSCS Newsletter, and SSCS Website.
