Description
Abstract: While most circuit design curriculum heavily focuses on (and rightfully so) choosing the right architectures, topologies and device sizing, students might simply be unaware of the significance of well-drawn schematics. It is an aspect that continues to be overlooked in the industry due to time pressure from the tape-out treadmills. The practical skill and discipline of drawing readable schematics is no different from that of writing clean codes for a programmer. This talk aims to highlight the importance of schematics drawing in IC design, provide a style guide and examples, and motivate designers to adopt good schematic practices. The tips and tricks presented in this webinar will also help enhance productivity and reduce frustrations during design cycles. Schematics can also be fun and allow us to express individuality. The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A section.

Bio: Kevin Zheng received his B.S. and M.Eng degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from MIT in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He then obtained his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University in 2018. Kevin received the J. Francis Reintjes Excellence in VI-A Industrial Practice Award and the David Adler Memorial EE M.Eng. Thesis Award in 2013, and the Stanford Graduate Fellowship in 2014. Kevin’s research interests are in mixed signal circuit design and high-speed communication systems. During his graduate career, Kevin has interned with multiple companies before joining Xilinx Inc. full-time, where he worked on the 112Gbps PAM4 transceiver projects. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer of Pure Fi Inc., focusing on next generation connectivity solutions for consumer, professional AV and industrial applications. In his spare time, Kevin maintains the “Circuit Artists” blog, in which he writes about the practical sides of IC design that might not have been taught in school.
