Description
Abstract: With the advantages of higher-quality on-chip power components, fine system integrability and better loop stability, switched-capacitor power converters (SCPC) have attracted widespread interests in large-scale SoCs, low-power wireless integrated systems, and energy-harvesting-powered sensor microsystems. However, such applications typically require a high conversion efficiency in a small form factor as well as dynamic input/output voltage adaptation, inevitably raising the design challenges due to the diverse intrinsic limitations with the conventional SCPC topologies. This presentation will first review the key fundamental principles of SCPCs, together with the theoretical loss evaluation models. It will then introduce state-of-the-art rational topology designs and circuit implementations. The design tradeoffs among different rational topologies will also be introduced.
Biography: Man-Kay Law received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2006 and 2011, respectively. In 2011, he joined the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, University of Macau, Macau, China, where he is currently an Associate Professor. His research interests include ultra-low power sensing circuits and systems, analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, and energy harvesting techniques. He served as a distinguished lecturer for both IEEE SSCS and IEEE CASS. He is a senior member of IEEE, and is a member of the Technical Program Committee of ISSCC.
