He has more than 42 years of experience in the semiconductor industry and microelectronic reliability. He retired as a Distinguished Technical Staff Member at GlobalFoundries\, where he led the qualification of 5G technologies\, following 27 years at IBM. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University and served as IEEE EDS President in 2018–2019\, as well as EDS Secretary and Education Committee Chair. \n\n\n\n\n\nFakhrul Zaman Rokhani\, Ph.D.\nIEEE CASS Vice President\, Education and Communications \nFakhrul Zaman Rokhani is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia and leads the Smart System and System-on-Chip research group. His research covers low-power\, energy-efficient system-on-chip design\, electronic design automation\, Internet of Things integration\, and sensor systems. He has previously worked with or held visiting appointments at organizations including STMicroelectronics\, Intel\, Huawei Technologies\, and Fudan University. He serves as the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Vice President for Education and Communications for 2023–2026 and leads several CASS education and digital-communication activities. \n\n\n\n\n\nMehdi Saligane\, Ph.D.\nChair\, IEEE SSCS Technical Committee on the Open-Source Ecosystem \nMehdi Saligane is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Brown University and a Visiting Faculty Researcher at Google Research. His work focuses on secure and energy-efficient integrated circuits\, biosensors\, open-source analog and mixed-signal design automation\, and hardware architectures for lightweight language-model accelerators. He is a founding member of the OpenROAD and OpenFASOC projects and chairs the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society Technical Committee on the Open-Source Ecosystem. He also co-founded the SSCS Chipathon and Code-a-Chip programs. \n\n\n\nCamilo Velez Cuervo\, Ph.D.\nIEEE EDS Board of Governors Member \nCamilo Velez Cuervo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California\, Irvine\, where he established the Magnetic Microsystems and Microrobotics Laboratory. His research includes micro- and nanorobotics\, microfabrication\, magnetic microsystems\, MEMS\, semiconductor devices\, and microfluidics. He serves on the IEEE Electron Devices Society Board of Governors and has contributed extensively to IEEE Young Professionals and microelectromechanical-systems activities. He founded the Latin Practice\, Chip Practice\, and Open-Source Silicon initiatives to expand access to practical chip-design and fabrication experiences. \n\n\n\nSusthitha Menon\, Ph.D.\nIEEE EDS Vice President\, Educational Activities \nSusthitha Menon is an Associate Professor and Professional Technologist at the Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics\, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her research encompasses semiconductor devices\, nanophotonics\, plasmonics\, quantum-inspired optoelectronics\, and AI-enabled biomedical sensing. She received her B.Eng.\, M.Sc.\, and Ph.D. degrees from UKM and began her industrial career as a product engineer with Intel Malaysia and Intel’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology Development facility in the United States. She currently serves as IEEE Electron Devices Society Vice President for Educational Activities.

SUMMARY:In-Memory Computing for Scalable Next-generation AI Systems - Naveen Verma | SSCS September Technical Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: We have long understood\, from fundamental circuit operation\, that analog computation can be substantially more efficient than digital computation in lower dynamic range regimes. One of the dominant trends in AI computation has been low-precision computation for neural networks\, providing an attractive opening to harness the efficiency of analog computation. However\, there is an important gap between fundamental circuit operation and practical circuit operation at the scales demanded by today’s AI systems. This talk looks at analog computation specifically from the lens of practical architectures for delivering scaled-up system-level efficiency inflections. While this brings to the forefront critical challenges for many analog pathways\, it also illuminates analog approaches that can and are driving significant efficiency boosts\, as prevailing digital trajectories are saturating. As we think about these\, it is also essential to consider how such inflections can be constructively adopted within the increasingly complex and multi-faceted ecosystem and system requirements\, without breaking the way systems are constructed today and in the future. Since July 2009\, he has been at Princeton University\, where he is currently the Ralph H. and Freda I. Augustine Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research focuses on advanced sensing and computing systems. This includes research on large-area flexible sensors\, energy-efficient computing architectures and circuits\, and machine-learning and statistical-signal-processing algorithms. Prof. Verma has been involved in a number of technology transfer activities\, including founding start-up companies. Most recently\, he co-founded EnCharge AI\, together with industry leaders in AI computing systems\, to commercialize foundational technology developed in his lab. Prof. Verma has served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society and on numerous conference program committees and advisory groups. Prof. Verma is the recipient of numerous teaching and research awards\, including several best paper awards with his students.

Dr. Tang is a Fellow of IEEE. \nPanelist #2: Prof. Bokyung Kim\nBokyung Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at North Carolina State University. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Duke University in 2024. Prior to joining NC State\, she was an Assistant Professor at Rutgers University. Her research focuses on memory-centric design with full-stack co-optimization with broad experience in hardware design\, spanning different hardware levels through device modeling\, mixed-signal VLSI\, architecture/system design\, and real implementations in silicon. She received the Best Paper Award from the IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design in 2025 and was a selected fellow of the IEEE Laureate Forum in 2026\, ACM Heidelberg Laureate Forum Young Researchers in 2024\, and EECS Rising Stars in 2023. She serves as a member of Board of Governors in the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society\, an Associate Editor TCAS-II\, as a Secretary of the Machine-Learning CAS Technical Committee.
